Bad Berleburg liegt in Nordrhein-Westfalen und gehört zum Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein. Bad Berleburg hat ca. 21.000 Einwohner und ist eine der flächengrößten Städte Deutschlands.
Bereits 1935 wurde Bad Berleburg wegen des schonenden bis reizmilden Klimas als Luftkurort anerkannt. Nach 1949 wurde die Klinik Wittgenstein als psychosomatisches Krankenhaus errichtet.
1951 wurde aus privater Initiative ein Kneipp-Kurverein gegründet, der der Vorläufer der Wittgensteiner Kuranstalt (WKA) war. Im ersten Jahr der Eröffnung des Kneippkur-Betriebes durch die WKA 1953 zählte man 11.000 Übernachtungen. |

Nach und nach wurde Bad Berleburg zum zweitgrößten Kneipp-Kurort in Deutschland.
Durch die Erlangung der staatlichen Anerkennung als Kneipp-Kurort wurde 1971 der Namenszusatz Bad verliehen und seitdem lautet der Name Bad Berleburg. Die staatliche Anerkennung als Heilbad erfolgte 1974.
